We need a strong leader for this year’s chef competition at the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest. The WNC Cheese Trail holds the annual Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest as a way to raise the needed funds for the organization. Each year we organize a competition between some of Asheville’s top chefs.
We are presently looking for a Chef Competition Coordinator. This is a current need that will last through the festival (April 26, 2020).
The Chef Competition Coordinator works closely with the festival director designing and implementing a food-related event or contest that involves WNC Cheese Trail associate members. There is a lot of room for creativity and this position provides a lot of interaction with local chefs and cheese makers.
Join us as the Chef Competition Coordinator if you are:
· able to multitask and are well organized
· comfortable using online communication and data systems
· an effective team player
· an experienced volunteer
The Chef Competition Coordinator is asked to give approximately 2 hours/week in Jan Feb & March. April time commitment will increase and likely be 2 - 3 hours/week. Day-of the festival the coordinator will need to be on hand to trouble shoot and to enjoy the festival!
The Chef Competition Coordinator responsibilities* include:
§ Developing a timeline for all aspects of the competition
§ Creating a contact sheet with all pertinent information regarding outreach for the event
§ Recruiting chefs (from our associate member restaurants) to participate in the event
§ Maintaining clear lines of communication with chefs involved in the competition
§ Recruiting judges for the competition
§ Maintaining clear lines of communication with the judges
§ Creating posters and other media related items for showcasing the event
§ Working with the Media Coordinator and the Social Media Coordinator to make sure the chefs and their restaurants receive media attention
*Please note, we have conducted this event every year so many of the items listed above have already been created. They need to be updated to reflect the current year and there’s always room for improvement.
The festival will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Highland Brewing from 12 – 5 p.m. We anticipate 1200+ attendees, 30+ vendors, live music, family friendly activities, cheese/farming related workshops, etc.
